In Which The Site Turns 14 and... Wait, What Does One Do When They Turn 14?

Hey, you made it. Welcome, welcome! Thanks for celebrating the fourteenth year of this silly writing experiment with me. Drinks are over by the bar, and of course there's cake, you know we had to have cake, and the rest of the food is in the kitchen, just serve yourselves.

I won't keep you - the hiatus continues, but it'll end sooner than you think, or at least that's the dream. Until then, feel free to use this space to discuss whatever you wish: album review ideas; lists of the first ten songs that pop up on your phone when you hit 'shuffle'; keyboard attacks aimed in my direction for taking the break in the first place; or even just tell me what you're listening to right now. I need some new ideas for the sites (this one, the Patreon, RandoMax Radio, the holy trinity you know what it is), and I feel that you two might be an untapped source. Don't let me down now.

Be back soon, just returning some videotapes!

-Max

  1. 14 years is crazy. I think I first found this site around 2011-2012 ish, definitely remember reading the GKMC review when it dropped.

I know you probably aren't adding any new artists to the review plate, but my favorite hip hop is coming out of Nashville and Chattanooga right now. Brian Brown, Michael Da Vinci, and Swayyvo have all dropped projects recently which are dope.

  2. I came to your page...I want to say some point in the departure of high school but I think that'd be a reach. All I know is when I found this site I couldn't stop reading articles on artists I hadn't even touched yet. I love HHID and thank you for your work, Max, One of these days I'll work up the nerve to post a reader review without fear of sounding like a complete moron.

I will add ten tracks here out of my current 2021 playlist. Maybe do a review of those since they're immediately relevant to me:

    1) Lemon(feat. Method Man) - Conway the Machine
    2) Cut Throats (feat. Mack 10) - Da Lench Mob
    3) The Pink Phantom (feat. Elton John) - Gorillaz
    4) Gone (feat. Consequence and Cam'Ron) - Kanye West
    5) The Most Beautifullest Thing - Keith Murray
    6) Pounds Up (Brenx Remix) - M.O.P.
    7) Back to Life 2001 (feat. Mary J. Blige and Jadakiss) - DJ Clue
    8) The Lost Chord (feat. Leee John) - Gorillaz
    9) Shiki no Uta - Minmi
    10) Helena - My Chemical Romance

  4. I just want to say that your Mobb Deep reviews made me nostalgic about when The Source mattered, even though I had never actually seen this magazine even once.

    1. Considering what The Source eventually became, that may be a good thing, but I'll still accept the compliment, because when it was good, it was fantastic.

  5. Yoooo, new reader here--I randomly came upon the blog recently through a Google search. Would love to see some content about Diamond D productions, Ill Al Scratch, and InI (still lookin back at other posts, but if you covered these let me know). Congrats on your commitment to this project!

    1. Ill Al Skratch appears on the Patreon, as they didn't really fit into the scope of the project, and there is no INI to be found here (yet). Diamond D is a guy whose stuff has been in my 'hurry up and write about this' pile for going on, what, eleven years now?, so I'm hoping that will happen soonish.

  6. Been reading since 20 f***** 09...man, you've went a lot longer than I expected pause. I don't blame you for moving onto something new (as we oughta do come puberty). I don't value your opinions as I used to (I'm eleven years older lol), but it's still an amusing read. It's creepy I've been the unofficial third reader all these years and posted only about once.

    Rest in peace DOOMile

    1. Sure, but the important thing is that you posted.

  7. Congratulations, seems I've beed reading this blog longer than I have been with my wife!

Personally I'd like to see a bit more underground/independent stuff featured, mostly of the 90's variety - I'm sure most of us two can't be bothered with 99% of today's garbage.

  8. There are three Muggs projects out there and another dropping this month…just saying.

Also, for who’s one of the best Killa B-Teamers, kind of odd neither of Streetlife’s albums made an appearance during the 12 Days.

    1. It wasn't for a lack of trying - Street's been in the pile for quite a while now, I just ran out of time.
