RandoMax Radio's Producers Guild Episode #4 - Easy Mo Bee

Producers Guild is a series celebrating the creators behind the boards of your favorite songs. Listen to today's episode and leave your comments, suggestions, questions, criticisms, and/or whatever you have for me below so we can continue the conversation.

Osten "Easy Mo Bee" Harvey Jr. is a Brooklyn-based producer (and occasional rapper) held in rather high regard within our chosen culture, for good reason. His sound is usually described as the score to walking around New York City in the mid-to-late 1990's, a very specific claim that holds up under scrutiny, as his jazz influences and harder drums hit much differently than those of his peers at the time. Not only was he primarily responsible for the eventual rise of the Wu-Tang Clan, having provided his musical expertise for early projects from a pre-Killa Bee The Genius and Prince Rakeem, he was also Bad Boy Records' secret weapon, helping craft the debut albums from both of the late artists in Puffy's early stable, Craig Mack and The Notorious B.I.G. In short, he's more than deserving of a Producers Guild showcase, and you two will find many enjoyable treats in today's mix.

This episode presents a mix of Mo Bee's productions that showcase his style, which always seems to inspire his collaborators to talk the most shit possible, or to relay their grittiest crime tales with as much detail as possible. Given that the man's sound embodies a certain era in New York City-based hip hop, it shouldn't be surprising that a lot of the artists featured here hail from the state, but Easy Mo Bee is far too versatile to limit himself to one location, so there are a few others from various parts of the country included for inclusion's sake.

Episode 4 is almost exclusively limited to hip hop in scope: Mo Bee had credits in other musical genres, but most of those efforts didn't make it through my vetting process, as the idea is that I actually enjoy every song presented wherein. As such, you'll be familiar with many of the tracks here (especially the first track, which is arguably the man's finest and most well-known contribution to our chosen genre), although some of these you may not have heard in quite a while, and you just might find a new favorite in this mix, so you should press 'play' immediately so you can beat everyone else to the punch.

And after you listen to today's episode, why not give this a spin as well?

I was having a harder time than usual trimming down today's episode, so, as the shelter-in-place order has officially driven me insane, I decided, "fuck it", so here is a second volume of Easy Mo Bee productions that follow in the tradition of the first. Please note that this is not Episode #4.5 - this is legitimately a second part, so today you get to hear thirty-six songs instead of the usual eighteen. Lucky you!

Hopefully you enjoy today's episode(s). Let me know in the comments what you think, what songs I missed, and leave me some ideas for producers to look into for future episodes.  And be sure to subscribe to RandoMax Radio for more of these mixes, and just know, I take requests. Don't be shy. I need to know these things to plan for the future, folks.

P Diddy will always be a first class prick for blackballing Easy Mo Bee, it was this man's beats which made Ready to Die the album it was!
