Obviously Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is the proper debut album from the Wu-Tang Clan, the reason you're reading these words today, the project from which spawned every other goddamned Wu-related piece of content on this and every site on Al Gore's Interweb. However, there are two projects from official Wu members that pre-date the group's introduction to the scene in 1992-1993: Words From the Genius, the mismanaged first effort from a pre-name change The Genius whose fate was left to chance by a cold, uncaring Cold Chillin' Records; and the never-recorded debut from Prince Rakeem, better known to you and me as Wu-Tang figurehead The RZA, which was originally going to be released by Tommy Boy Records, had his debut single, "Ooh I Love You Rakeem", not bombed so hard at the box office.
Both 1991 efforts caused cousins Gary Grice and Robert Diggs to regroup and refocus, but without those early failures, we would never have the Wu-Tang Clan as we know them today.
