In the midst of a new year that isn't even two fucking weeks old but feels like 2020 took some rage-inducing seditious steroids, I present to both readers a new episode of the Max-Approved Mixtape, which I hope will take your mind off of doomscrolling social media for forty-five minutes or so. Or, at the very least, could be the score for said doomscrolling, because I'm fully confident that you two can multitask with the best of them.
Episode 7 of the Max-Approved Mixtape takes things back to the essence: ten hip hop tracks that I personally co-sign, taken from various eras of our beloved culture and curated in a manner that puts each song in a new light. Unlike December's thought experiment (in which I "thought" that readers might enjoy a straight-up run of Wu-Tang-affiliated songs as a holiday treat, and as it turns out, I was right), we return to exploring every other chamber of hip hop, although there are a couple of Wu-adjacent efforts found here, as I recorded this episode at the same time as the others and liked these tracks enough to shove them onto here, as neither really fit the 12 Days of Wu-Mas format.
MAX-APPROVED MIXTAPE EPISODE #7:
1. Casual, Roc Marciano, Vordul Mega, and Tragedy Khadafi - "Think Differently"
2. Skyzoo x Pete Rock- "Truck Jewels"
3. 2Pac - "If I Die 2Nite"
4. Action Bronson - "Falconry" (featuring Meyhem Lauren and Big Body Bes)
5. KXNG Crooked x Bronze Nazareth - "Slave Chains To Handcuffs" (featuring Ras Kass, Bishop Lamont, and Compton Menace)
6. G-Dep - "Child of the Ghetto"
7. El Camino - "Too Grimey For The Radio" (featuring Meyhem Lauren)
8. Pac Div - "Top Down" (featuring Casey Veggies and Skeme)
9. Blaq Poet - "I-Gititin"
10. Snoop Doggy Dogg - "Who Got Some Gangsta Shit?" (featuring Tha Dogg Pound, Lil' Style, and Swoop G)
Feel free to like, repost, and share as often as you'd like - I guarantee your friends will enjoy what I'm trying to do here, and your own personal stock will rise as they discover that you, too, have excellent taste in music.
Until next time!
